Lindon Shimizu

Dance artist

Lindon is a Brazilian-Japanese artist, born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and raised in Japan. Since 2015, he has been based in Joensuu, Finland, where he has worked as a dance artist across the fields of dance, theater, and video.

Over the past nine years, Lindon has performed, choreographed, directed, and collaborated internationally in Brazil, Japan, Finland, Spain, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Estonia, and Latvia. His choreographic work “BIRONGITAI” premiered at ITAK-stage in 2021 and has been showcased at platforms such as Ice Hot Helsinki (2022), Näytämö-teatteri (Joensuu, 2022), Draama-sali in Vaasa, and Asema44 in Pori. The solo piece “Kilpikonna Kuningatar” (2024) evolved from the earlier solo processes “Hatch” and “unpacking”, presented at Zodiak’s Z-lab (2021) and Näytämö-teatteri (Joensuu, 2022).

Lindon’s artistic practice explores the concepts of “Migratory Body” and “Fluid Identity”as frameworks for movement and creation. He is deeply interested in the interplay of the aesthetic and political body as a strategy for existence and creation, navigating the spaces between liquids and membranes, contents and containers, and creating in between these intersections.
